The first step to becoming such a professional is completing a post-secondary air conditioning program. There are 2 kinds available – these are apprenticeship and community college. A community college one will range from 1 to 2 years and offer classroom learning, in addition to job placements. Once the program is completed, graduates will be fully qualified air conditioning technicians.
Apprenticeship programs last anywhere from 3 to 4 years, and the majority of their time will be spent on on-the-job training. The course work needed is done via evening and weekend classes. To become a fully qualified air conditioning contractor, you must first find a journeyman that will be willing to take on the responsibility of your training.
Being an apprentice does pay a wage; the amount will be connected to what skills you have learned. To begin with, it is not unusual to be paid more than the minimum wage, with the job’s tasks being manual labor. However, over time, as you learn new skills and use them, your hourly rate will increase. An apprenticeship is seen as an investment for the employer and employee.
